STATEMENT OF THE DIRECTOR
Change is inherent to any community of individuals, be it a country, an
organization, or the union of two people in a marriage. It is a manifestation
of the evolution of self, our wants, desires, and hopes, welcome by some
and resisted by others. In more relevant terms, the socioeconomic politics
of many countries are currently guided by the changes associated with
globalization. For many, the resultant evolution of our society often
forces us to evaluate the merits of change, weighing our collective conscience
against our individual desires and hopes, thus forming the foundation
of our reaction in response to the change. Subsequently, our mixed response
becomes the basis of conflict, but more importantly, creates a wedge between
those who benefit from it and those who suffer from it. Bhavum is an exploration
of the emotional evolution within a marriage that results from changes
in the physical and material desires of the husband that run in conflict
with the conscience of the wife; this conflict saddles her with the burden
of choice: Should she accept his changes for the sake of her marriage,
or should she resist it and stay true to herself?
